Legendary Races City Multi-Stage is a 6 stage/7 day, 173 mile/278 km

Legendary Races is a new ultra race multi stage ultra marathon race series held in some of the most remote, historic and chronicled landscapes in the world.  Courses will be rugged, extreme conditions and temperatures can be expected, and your tenacity will surely be tested. Events will include footraces and mountain bike races. Races will occur annually, with one new race added each year for the next several years.

All races are fully self-supported–no aid stations, no drop bags. We provide water, fire, and tents. We also provide markers throughout the course–flags, ties, glow-in-the-dark sticks–to mark your way. You will always be able to see the next marker from the last–this is not a race designed to test self-navigation. You do however need to provide mental toughness, physical preparation, and everything you’ll need for the week. Whatever you begin the race with on your back is all you will have for the entirety of the race, so careful kit and food planning is essential.

The Cloud City Multi-Stage is a 6 stage/7 day, 173 mile/278 km footrace through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It is a very high altitude race, ranging from just under 10,000 feet/3,048 meters up to just under 14,000 feet/4,267 meters.  You will be on trail, off-trail, through rivers, on boulder fields, through grass, you name it!

Today We Die a Little!: The Inimitable Emil Zátopek, the Greatest Olympic Runner of All Time

Today We Die a Little!: The Inimitable Emil Zátopek, the Greatest Olympic Runner of All Time

For a decade after the Second World War, Emil Zátopek—“the Czech locomotive”—redefined the sport of distance running, pushing back the frontiers of what was considered possible. He won five Olympic medals, set eighteen world records, and went undefeated in the 10,000-metre race for six years. His dominance has never been equaled.
In the darkest days of the Cold War, he stood for a spirit of generous friendship that transcended nationality and politics. Zátopek was an energetic supporter of the Prague Spring in 1968, championing “socialism with a human face” in Czechoslovakia. But for this he paid a high price. After the uprising was crushed by Soviet tanks, the hardline Communists had their revenge. Zátopek was expelled from the army, stripped of his role in national sport, and condemned to years of hard and degrading manual labor.

Based on extensive research in the Czech Republic, interviews with people across the world who knew him, and unprecedented cooperation from his widow, fellow Olympian Dana Zátopková, journalist Richard Askwith’s book breathes new life into the man and the myth, uncovering a glorious age of athletics and an epoch-defining time in world history.
