Substitution for Comrades Marathon 2019

SUBSTITUTION RULE

The substitution rule is an extension of the Comrades Marathon Race rules and must be read in conjunction with the general race rules which forms an integral part of the entry form. The rule governs the process of withdrawing one athlete from the Comrades Marathon and replacing the fully paid athlete’s entry with another athlete’s entry and credentials. It is the responsibility of the substitute athlete to find an athlete who intends to or has withdrawn from the race.

Substitution Period

The Substitution process opens on 01 March 2019 and all applications must reach the CMA by no later than 15 April 2019. NO LATE SUBSTITUTIONS WILL BE PROCESSED.

Substitution Methods

There are two methods to do a substitution. Please read the following instructions and choose to either do your substitution online or via the manual process using the downloadable substitution form.

Marathon Faith: Motivation from the Greatest Endurance Runners of the Bible

Marathon Faith: Motivation from the Greatest Endurance Runners of the Bible

Surrendering your life to Jesus is the greatest decision you will ever make, but that’s just the starting line. Many of us begin a journey of following Jesus without a realistic expectation of the price required to finish our spiritual race. As a result, we lose heart when the road becomes difficult.

In Marathon Faith: Motivation from the Greatest Endurance Runners of the Bible, pastor and marathon runner John Van Pay offers help. Van Pay shows how the “endurance runners of the Bible” overcame obstacles on their faith journeys and how you too can finish your spiritual race through their example.

By adding personal adventures, humorous mishaps, and grueling struggles from his own endurance races and life experiences, Van Pay shares in vulnerable ways how God helps when things get tough. You too can finish strong.

Note: The Fakahatchee is a wilderness area and nature preserve. Many miles of trails are cleared in advance of race day. Where: The entrance to Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is located in Copeland, FL on State Route 29, fifteen miles south of Exit 80 on Interstate 75 (“Alligator Alley”), and 2.5 miles north of US 41 (“Tamiami Trail”). Everglades City is five miles south of the park entrance on Route 29. The Fakahatchee is approximately 1 1/2 hour’s drive from downtown Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

When: Saturday, March 9, 2019. The 50 mile race start is at 6:00am; cut-off is 8:30pm. The 50 kilometer race begins at 7:30am, with cut-off at 7:30pm. The 25 kilometer race begins at 9:00am with a 7:00pm finish cut-off time. A required orientation will be presented before each race at the starting line, with optional packet pick-up, orientation and park history with the Fakahatchee Manager on Friday at 5:00pm.

Support/Food: Fully stocked and staffed aid stations throughout the course. Park rangers on UTVs supporting the race throughout the venue. Burgers and beverages and more under the big tent at the race finish! Runner drop bags allowed at strategic locations.

100 Mile Endurance Run, One of America’s Oldest, Toughest, and Gnarliest Ultramarathons

Superior: 100 Mile Endurance Run, One of America’s Oldest, Toughest, and Gnarliest Ultramarathons

The Superior 100 is one of the most rugged, remote, and relentless 100 mile footraces out there. It’s beautiful and challenging. This multi-genre book is part nonfiction novel, part history, part memoir, among other things. It follows eight runners through the race. It follows crew members, volunteers, course markers, sweepers, and the race director. It dives into race history. With lyric and memorable narrative, it captures the physical, mental, and spiritual journeys of the competitors as they run through the night, through the forests, rivers, and ridgetops of the Sawtooth Mountains of northern Minnesota.
