A ultramaratona Comrades é uma das mais antigas e prestigiadas corridas de ultradistância do mundo. Ela acontece anualmente na África do Sul e percorre uma distância de aproximadamente 90 quilômetros entre as cidades de Pietermaritzburg e Durban, com mudanças de elevação que somam mais de 1.800 metros.

A corrida foi criada em 1921 para homenagear os soldados sul-africanos que lutaram na Primeira Guerra Mundial, e desde então se tornou um evento icônico que atrai corredores de todo o mundo. A Comrades é conhecida por ser uma das corridas mais difíceis do mundo, exigindo dos corredores um alto nível de resistência física e mental.

A cada ano, a corrida atrai milhares de corredores de elite e amadores, muitos dos quais treinam durante meses para estar em sua melhor forma para a prova. A Comrades tem um limite de tempo de 12 horas para completar o percurso, o que significa que os corredores precisam manter um ritmo constante ao longo de toda a corrida.

A Comrades também é conhecida por sua atmosfera única, com uma multidão entusiástica de torcedores que se alinham ao longo do percurso para aplaudir e incentivar os corredores. Muitos corredores também participam da corrida como uma forma de arrecadar fundos para instituições de caridade.

A ultramaratona Comrades é um evento esportivo de destaque na África do Sul e em todo o mundo, e sua história e tradição continuam a inspirar corredores a desafiar seus limites e conquistar o impossível.

DATE AND TIME OF RACE
The race will be run on Sunday, 14 June 2020 starting at 05h30 and finishing at 17h30. The race is run from ‘gun to gun’.

ROUTE & DISTANCE
It is a “DOWN RUN” starting at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg and finishing at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The distance is approximately 90,2km but is subject to change and will be confirmed in the final race instructions.

COMRADES SIGNS 3-YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH THIRSTI WATER

Runners will quench their thirst with Thirsti Water at this year’s 94th Comrades Marathon after the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) announced the signing of a 3-year partnership with local bottled water company, Thirsti Water. The top spring water brand will feature as the exclusive Hydration Partner to the Comrades Marathon going forward.

Runners will be supplied with Thirsti Water at refreshment stations all along the 87km Comrades route, in addition to other traditional refreshments. Focused on delivering the highest quality water that Nature can provide, 2 million Thirsti water sachets will be made available for #Comrades2019.

With this deal just concluded, Thirsti and the CMA are committed to jointly working on a plan in the future years of this agreement to reduce the use of single use plastics (SUP’s) as part of the strategy to totally phase out plastic use by 2025.

Thirsti will be contributing tremendous logistical support to the Comrades Marathon in the form of warehousing and delivery of its sponsored water; and the subsequent direct distribution to the 43 Comrades refreshment stations.

Their comprehensive and efficient distribution of hydration throughout the 87km race is notable, thus enabling the CMA to ensure that all runners have adequate water available and that no station runs dry.

As part of Thirsti’s generous agreement, an extra 52,000 bottles of their spring water will be made available. Each finisher will receive a bottle of Thirsti spring water in their goodie bag and at the finish; as well as being utilised to hydrate the entire CMA volunteer core on race day.

Substitution for Comrades Marathon 2019

SUBSTITUTION RULE

The substitution rule is an extension of the Comrades Marathon Race rules and must be read in conjunction with the general race rules which forms an integral part of the entry form. The rule governs the process of withdrawing one athlete from the Comrades Marathon and replacing the fully paid athlete’s entry with another athlete’s entry and credentials. It is the responsibility of the substitute athlete to find an athlete who intends to or has withdrawn from the race.

Substitution Period

The Substitution process opens on 01 March 2019 and all applications must reach the CMA by no later than 15 April 2019. NO LATE SUBSTITUTIONS WILL BE PROCESSED.

Substitution Methods

There are two methods to do a substitution. Please read the following instructions and choose to either do your substitution online or via the manual process using the downloadable substitution form.

Method 1: Online Substitution(preferred method)

Once Substitutions Open please follow the below steps to do an online substitution:

Step 1:

  • The current entrant who has a valid paid entry can logon to their online entry using their personal logon “User Name” and “Password”
  • The entrant must locate the substitution button at the bottom of the page and then follow the prompts
  • The “Substitution Voucher Code” needs to be supplied to the potential entrant who will be substituting to run Comrades 2019 as they will need this to use as a payment voucher when processing their entry online.

Step 2:

  • The new entrant who is the substitute, must do an online entry from the link below. (Link will only be available once the Substitution window opens)
  • On completing their new entry, they will use the “Substitution Voucher Code” as payment of the entry fee.
  • Once the “Substitution Voucher Code” has been entered as payment, there will be a remaining amount of R300 due for the substitution fee.
  • The substitution fee must be settled with an online Credit Card OR Debit Card transaction. NO DIRECT DEPOSITS (EFTs) WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Ultramaratona de Comrades 2018: A ultra mais famosa do mundo.

Percurso em descida – “DOWN RUN”
A Maratona de Comrades é conhecida como a “Ultimate Human Race”, pois atrai corredores de todas as faixas etárias e habilidades atléticas. É a ultramaratona mais famosa do mundo. O evento aconteceu pela primeira vez em 1921 em homenagem aos camaradas da Primeira Guerra Mundial. Além dos anos 1941-1945 (2 ª guerra mundial), quando o evento não aconteceu, mas tem acontecido a cada ano desde então. Este ano, 2017 é a 92ª corrida do evento.

A Comrades Marathon é uma corrida de ultra, 86,73 km (53,89 milhas) Ultra Maratona com data para domingo 10 de junho. A Maratona dos Comrades acontece anualmente em Kwazulu-Natal entre as cidades de Durban e Pietermaritzburg. O sentido da rota alterna a cada ano com a direção de Pietermaritzburg a Durban conhecida como a prova com descida e a direção de Durban a Pietermaritzburg conhecida como a prova ascendente.

A maioria dos corredores de Comrades têm uma preferência. Geralmente acredita-se que o up kinder, correr no sentido descida seja mais festivo.

Comrades Substitution Process Closing

There are just hours remaining for aspirant Comrades runners to get their Substitution applications in before the process closes. The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has confirmed that the month-long process comes to an end at close of business on Wednesday, 25 April 2018.

Over 1500 successful substitution applications have been processed since opening on 26 March. The Substitution Rule allows for a runner who has not entered to substitute an entrant who has withdrawn, or intends to withdraw from the 2018 Comrades Marathon.

The cost of the Substitution application is R200,00. The Substitution rule is applicable to all entrants including South African, Rest of Africa and International on a like for like basis i.e.

  • An International entrant can only substitute with an International entrant
  • For the first time, athletes from Rest of Africa (ROA) will be able to substitute with SA runners or other Rest of Africa entrants
  • A South African entrant can substitute with a South African entrant or Rest of Africa entrant

Prospective substitutes are encouraged to do their applications online. Alternatively, they may send their completed applications via email to sub@comrades.com or hand deliver them to Comrades House in Pietermaritzburg. Please do not post forms.

2018 Comrades Marathon

THIS RACE IS RUN UNDER THE RULES OF IAAF, ASA, KZNA AND CMA

ENTRIES

Entries for the 2018 Comrades Marathon are limited to a maximum of 20 000 and there will be no extensions. All current and potential Comrades Marathon runners that wish to run the 2018 Comrades Marathon are urged to take careful note of the entry process and the cutoff date. All runners are urged to enter early to avoid disappointment.

Entries open on the 1 September 2017 and close on 30 November 2017 or once the quota of 20 000 has been reached.

 

DATE AND TIME OF RACE

The race will be run on Sunday, 10 June 2018 starting at 05h30 and finishing at 17h30. The race is run from ‘gun to gun’.

 

ROUTE & DISTANCE

It is a “DOWN RUN” starting at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg and finishing in Durban. The race distance is approximately 89km. The distance is subject to change and will be confirmed in the final race instructions.

 

ENTRY FEE

Early Bird Entry for South African Entrants and Rest of Africa (1 September to 30 September 2017 ONLY) is R460.

 

South Africa and Rest of Africa: R500 (1 October 2017 to 30 November 2017) International: R 3300 (1 September 2017 to 30 November 2017)

 

Entry fee is waived for holders of 25 or more Comrades medals. Contact CMA for a 25 medal plus voucher number required during the entry process

 

THE ENTRY FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE.

 

ENTRY PERIOD

Entries open on 1 September 2017 and close on 30 November 2017. There will only be one entry window period for all athletes to enter whether they are former Comrades runners, Novices, Rest of Africa or International.

 

Entries will be limited to a maximum of 20,000 and no extensions will be granted. Entries will close on 30 November 2017 or once the 20,000 entries have been received (i.e. if 20,000 entries are received by 15 November 2017 then no further entries will be accepted). All current and potential Comrades Marathon runners that wish to run in 2018 are urged to take careful note of the entry process and the cut-off date.

 

NO entries will be taken in 2018.

Total number of entries will be capped at 20,000.

RIGHTS RESERVED

Any irregularities in your entry form will result in a rejected entry. Comrades Marathon Association reserves the right to accept or reject any entry, subject to the rules of IAAF, ASA, KZNA and CMA.

 

AGE RESTRICTION

The minimum age requirement is that the athlete must be 20 years or older on the day of the qualifying race (ASA RULE 20).

 

RESTRICTION ON ENTRY

The Comrades Marathon is restricted to club registered runners only. All participants must be 2018 licensed by their respective Federations. The domicile rule will be strictly enforced. No athlete may run for a club other than a club registered in the Province in which they are domiciled unless they are registered on the current ASA National List. Athletes will not be in possession of their 2018 licenses at the time of entry. They will be allowed to enter, however MUST submit their club name and license number to CMA no later than 16h30, 02 May 2018. Failure to submit these details will result in the entry being rejected.

 

FOREIGN ATHLETES

Foreign athletes must strictly observe IAAF Rule 4. All foreign athletes must note that in order to participate in the event, they require written approval (a permit) from their National Federations. In a case where a foreign athlete is entered through a South African athletics club, it is the responsibility of the club to assist the athlete in securing the permit, and to hand it over to the race organizers before the event takes place. Event organizers reserve the right to reject the entry of foreign athletes who violates IAAF Rule 4.

SOUTH AFRICAN ENTRIES
