OMTOM Ultra entrants will be required to submit a qualifying marathon (or longer distance) result obtained between 1 July 2017 and 28 February 2018. All standard marathons and races longer than 42.2km count as qualifying races, provided that they are held under the auspices of the IAAF.

In order to qualify for the OMTOM Ultra Marathon, runners’ qualifier results must meet the following criteria:
The Great Wall Marathon is widely considered one of the world’s most challenging marathons.
Despite the arduous course on the iconic Great Wall of China, runners will be rewarded by its breathtaking surroundings and views. As the route leads participants through the lower valley and into the villages, onlookers will be cheering and the festive atmosphere is a real energy boost!
Find out more about the race below.
There are few ways to register for The Great Wall Marathon, depending on your place of residency.
If you are not a resident of China, you can purchase one of two holiday packages, which include race entry: the 6-day itinerary or the 7-day itinerary.
The same packages are available for spectators and provide entry to Race Day and Inspection Day, as well as other activities with the runners.
If you are a resident in China, you can purchase “race entry only” without the packages. You can also sign up through one of our partner travel agents.
Registration closes for the 2018 Great Wall Marathon on 19 April 2018. After this date, no new entries will be accepted.
We advise you, however, to book early to avoid disappointment. The 2017 event sold out well in advance of the regular registration period.
If you sign up after 19 March 2018, a late registration fee of 100 USD will be applied to each person on your booking. In addition, the full amount (ie. not just the deposit) must be paid immediately.
The Great Wall Marathon takes place on the third Saturday in May every year.
Upcoming runs will take place on the following future dates:
19 May 2018
18 May 2019
The Great Wall Marathon features three distances:
Full marathon – 42.195km/26.2mi
Half marathon – 21.1km/13.1mi
Fun Run – 8.5km/5.5mi – a non-competitive run also on the Great Wall
the world’s most beautiful marathon – 56km Ultra Marathon around the Cape Peninsula, since 1970.
The 49th consecutive Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon will remain on the traditional route via Chapman’s Peak, Hout Bay and ConstantiaNek (unless deemed unsafe by authorities in which case the OuKaapseWeg route (prior to 2004) will be used). The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon is run under the rules of IAAF, Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Western Province Athletics (WPA).

Though the running boom appears to have peaked and even tapered off somewhat, the marathon is still the ultimate running experience for many runners. Higdon’s book, although well written, offers very little in the way of new information on training for or running the marathon. Previously published works such as Joe Henderson’s Complete Marathoner (Anderson World, 1978), Andy Friedberg’s How To Run Your First Marathon (S. & S., 1987), and Ricard Benyo’s Making the Marathon Your Event (Random, 1992) offer very similar advice. However, Higdon’s anecdotal style provides entertaining reading and may inspire aspiring marathoners. The author provides details of many of his personal marathon experiences as well as those of other top American marathoners such as Bill Rodgers, Don Kardang, and Dick Buerkle. This book will appeal to general readers seriously considering training for their first marathon. For large sports collections.
To qualify for the Boston Marathon, athletes must meet time standards which correspond to age and gender. For the 2019 Boston Marathon, qualifying times must be run on or after Saturday, September 16, 2017. The qualifying times below are based upon each athlete’s age on the date of the 2019 Boston Marathon (April 15, 2019).
Achieving one’s qualifying standard does not guarantee entry into the event, but simply the opportunity to submit for registration. In recent years, not all qualifiers who submit an entry have been accepted due to field size restrictions. If total amount of submissions surpass the allotted field size for qualified athletes, then those who are the fastest among the pool of applicants in their age and gender group will be accepted. See the current qualifying standards below:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The acceptance of official race entrants will be based on qualifying time, with the fastest qualifiers (in relation to their age and gender) being accepted first until the race is full.
The qualifying window will remain open until the conclusion of registration for the Boston Marathon (once the maximum field size has been reached).
Only a certified full marathon distance will be accepted for qualifying.
Distances shorter than a full marathon will not be accepted.
We do not accept indoor marathon times.
We accept qualifying times from USATF, AIMS, or foreign equivalent certified courses. The Boston Marathon does not designate which races meet qualifying standards. You must contact the race directly to see if they are certified.
All qualifying times are subject to review and verification.
Minimum age requirement for the Boston Marathon is 18 years of age on race day.
All qualifying times are based on official submitted net time.
Though the B.A.A. will email registrants upon the completion of their form, runners are not officially entered into the race until their qualifying time is verified. This length of time may vary and can be as long as several days, depending on the qualifying marathon.
