Galloway’s Book on Running: 3rd Edition

Galloway’s Book on Running: 3rd Edition

Olympic athlete Jeff Galloway shows how amateur runners can use the same training principles followed by world-class runners. He tells beginners how to get started, explains his ideas on stress and rest, and reveals secrets for running better. In this completely revised and updated new edition of the classic text on running, Galloway includes training schedules for 5k, 10k, and the increasingly popular half-marathon races, as well as recent insights into motivation, nutrition, and fat burning.

Most importantly, Jeff has updated this version to include his run walk run® method of training, which has helped tens of thousands of runners train injury-free for races of varying distances, including marathons.

A Few Degrees from Hell: White Hot Tales from the Badwater Ultramarathon

A Few Degrees from Hell: White Hot Tales from the Badwater Ultramarathon

The Badwater Ultra-marathon is commonly referred to as the toughest footrace on the planet. In 2003, defending champion Pam Reed, Dean Karnazes and 71 other runners took the ultimate challenge of running 135 miles in California from Badwater to the portals of Mount Whitney. Their journey would take them through the hostile environment of Death Valley and subject them to temperatures ranking among the highest ever recorded on earth. Twenty-five runners tell of their adventures in arguably the absolute toughest of the roughest footrace on the plane – the good, the bad and yes, the ugly – in this incredible and fascinating compilation. You are certain to gain a respect for the runners you will meet and perhaps an even greater respect for the area known as Death Valley.

While the difficulty of the course changes to new obstacles, the support and dedication to a truly awesome event remain the same. This includes a ONE loop 50k/25k course and support from amazing volunteers.

A Runner’s High: Older, Wiser, Slower, Stronger

A Runner’s High: Older, Wiser, Slower, Stronger

Dean Karnazes has pushed his body and mind to inconceivable limits, from running in the shoe-melting heat of Death Valley to the lung-freezing cold of the South Pole. He’s raced and competed across the globe and once ran 50 marathons, in 50 states, in 50 consecutive days.

In A Runner’s High, Karnazes chronicles his return to the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run in his mid-fifties after first completing the race decades ago. The Western States, infamous for its rugged terrain and extreme temperatures, becomes the most demanding competition of his life, a physical and emotional reckoning and a battle to stay true to one’s purpose. Confronting his age, wearying body, career path and life choices, we see Karnazes as we never have before, raw and exposed.
